About Morrison Law, PLLC

Zachary Morrison, Esq.

Founder and Managing Attorney, Morrison Law, PLLC

Early Life and Education

Zachary Phillip Morrison was born and raised in LeRoy, Illinois. His mother served as a special education teacher in the LeRoy school district for over 30 years. His father began his career as a high school history teacher and football coach before transitioning into school administration. He went on to serve as principal of Unity High School for over three decades. Both parents are now retired.

Morrison attended LeRoy Elementary, Junior High, and High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete and academic standout. He earned three varsity letters in football and basketball while simultaneously earning two varsity letters in baseball and track and field. He served as captain in football, basketball, and track, leading his basketball team to a 24–6 record, and “sweet-16" IHSA finish (highest W/L record in school history). In track and field, Morrison qualified for the state meet in the 4x200 meter relay during his junior year. He was part of LeRoy High School’s all-time fastest 4x200 meter relay team, which achieved its record-setting time at the IHSA state championship meet held at Eastern Illinois University, finishing 10th in the state. During his senior year, Morrison placed 20th statewide in the class 1A 400-meter dash.  In recognition of his athletic achievements, Morrison received the school’s Senior Most Athletic Award.

Attorney Morrison is also an accomplished percussionist. Morrison began playing drums when he was eight years old. He played multiple different percussive instruments in concerts, sporting events, and marching band competitions from fourth grade throughout his senior year. He attended multiple Marching Band competitions in his home state, Illinois, and has on more than one occasion marched with the LeRoy HS Marching Band in Disney's Celebration Parade in Orlando, Florida. Morrison marched as center snare drummer in the drum line.

Morrison is an inducted member of the National Honor Society as of 2008.

Though highly recruited to play football in college, Morrison chose instead to attend Illinois Wesleyan University, where he studied psychology and ran varsity track and field. Morrison earned varsity letters his freshman, sophomore, and junior years. As part of IWU’s 4x400 meter relay team, he qualified for the NCAA National Championships and was recognized as an Academic All-American for combining athletic success with academic excellence.

Before earning his law degree, Zach Morrison studied psychology at Illinois Wesleyan University, where he served as both a teaching and research assistant in behavioral psychology. In the lab, he helped run operant conditioning experiments using Skinner boxes (i.e., training rats to press levers for water or food reinforcement until satiation). This early work fostered a deep understanding of human motivation, reinforcement patterns, and decision-making under pressure—concepts he now applies daily in the courtroom. Whether analyzing police behavior, juror psychology, or prosecutorial tactics, Morrison draws from this scientific foundation to anticipate conduct, influence outcomes, and craft more effective trial strategies.

Legal Education and Early Career

Morrison earned his Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida. At Stetson, he received the Book Award in legal research and writing, given to the top-performing student in the class. He was also selected to join Stetson’s nationally ranked Trial Team and traveled throughout Florida and to Colorado to compete in elite advocacy tournaments.

While in law school, Morrison gained practical courtroom experience through internships with judges and criminal defense firms. After graduating, he was appointed Assistant State Attorney in Florida’s Sixth Judicial Circuit, where he served Pinellas County.

Over the course of three years, Morrison handled more than 2,000 criminal cases. After only 12 months of litigating with the 6th State Attorney's Office, Morrison was promoted to a Lead Trial Attorney position. In that position, Mr. Morrison oversaw a team of prosecutors and managed an entire Divisions courtroom calendar. A short while after, Attorney Morrison advanced to felony trial work as a solo litigating attorney. During his time as a prosecutor, he participated in 15 Jury and bench trials, closing out with a professional trial record of 13 wins and 2 losses.

Private Practice and Founding of Morrison Law

Following his tenure in public service, Morrison took time away from the law to focus on building a meaningful life with his wife, Almery. That period offered space for reflection, helping clarify the kind of legal practice he ultimately wanted to build — one rooted in empathy, integrity, and clarity under pressure.

Morrison returned to private practice at Franchi Law, where he personally handled over 200 criminal defense cases and more than 200 personal injury matters. Known for his calm demeanor and strategic preparation, he earned a reputation for being both effective and trusted.

In 2025, Morrison founded Morrison Law, PLLC, a Tampa-based law firm focused on criminal defense and personal injury. Built from a decade of experience in the courtroom and a lifelong commitment to disciplined advocacy, Morrison Law is guided by the belief that legal representation should be principled, thorough, and human.

Morrison serves as the firm’s founder and sole member. He brings to each case the same focus and intensity that defined his career as a prosecutor and trial competitor. His mission is simple: to protect the accused, fight for the injured, and be the steady hand when everything else feels uncertain.

We are your calm in the chaos.

Philosophy and Way of Life

Morrison’s approach to law is deeply informed by the time he has spent in nature. From a young age, he was immersed in a life of self-reliance and respect for the wilderness. He began tracking game without a firearm at the age of six and passed the Federal Hunter Safety Course test with a score of 98 percent by age ten. Raised with a reverence for wildlife and responsible firearm use, he learned early that discipline, patience, and humility were not just virtues but necessities.

Over the years, he has hunted in regions across Illinois, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Florida, and Argentina. His commitment to hunting has never been about competition. It has always been about learning to live with the land, understand mortality, and cultivate independence. The wilderness taught him to be still, to observe carefully, and to act with purpose. These same qualities guide how he prepares for trial and advises his clients.

Morrison sees no division between the man who moves quietly through the woods and the lawyer who stands confidently in court. Both require preparation. Both demand honesty. And both are rooted in a deeper respect for what is at stake.

His time in the outdoors continues to shape how he approaches pressure, decision-making, and moments of consequence. It has made him steady rather than reactive. It has taught him that clarity comes from stillness, and that the most important choices are often made long before the moment arrives.
